Marking fifty years of the founding of an LGBTQ rights movement in Ireland, Reeling in the Queers explores the lesser-known stories of the fight for LGBTQ rights since 1974, beyond decriminalisation and Marriage Equality. Kerrigan tracks 14 key events in the journey to LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance in Ireland over 50 years of Irish social and political history. These stories highlight the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland and abroad and showcase the highs and lows, wins and losses, and ultimately the endurance of the LGBTQ+ community. Drawing upon oral histories and archives, Kerrigan carefully traces this journey and presents an engaging and thoughtful examination of Irish LGBTQ+ history.
