Ready to build

a more inclusive
culture?

Creating cultures where people feel they belong doesn't happen by accident. It takes listening, learning and practical action.

That's why we've created a growing collection of free resources, guides, reports and tools to help schools, Trusts and Local Authorities strengthen Inclusion, Belonging and Wellbeing.

From our award-winning research and Inclusion Index reports to practical playbooks, articles and our Say What? animations, you'll find evidence-informed ideas that can help turn good intentions into meaningful change.

These resources also offer a glimpse into the wider support available through the GEC Platform, where Inclusion Champions access CPD, implementation tools, expert insights and one of the largest libraries of inclusion resources in education.

Explore, download and use whatever is helpful. If it sparks a conversation, challenges a perspective or helps someone feel more seen, it's doing its job.

The Research

Meet the Inclusion Index

A national evidence base for Inclusion, Belonging and school experience.

Published termly by the GEC, the Inclusion Index brings together lived experience data from students, staff, parents and carers to help leaders understand what is really happening across educational communities.

Unlike traditional data sets that focus on attendance, attainment or behaviour, the Inclusion Index explores how people experience school. It surfaces the conditions that often sit behind the numbers, helping leaders understand where people feel they belong, where barriers exist and where action is needed most.

Drawing on tens of thousands of voices, the Index triangulates survey data, research workshops, interviews and practitioner insight to identify the trends, challenges and opportunities shaping inclusion in schools today.

Each edition provides:

  • National trends and emerging issues

  • Student, staff and parent/carer perspectives

  • Inclusion and belonging insights

  • Kaleidoscopic Data and lived experience evidence

  • Practical reflection points for leaders

  • Actionable recommendations for schools, Trusts and Local Authorities

Whether you are looking to benchmark your own setting, strengthen your inclusion strategy or better understand the experiences of your community, the Inclusion Index provides a unique window into what people are really saying, feeling and experiencing in education today.

26,000 Voices: What Students and Staff Really Think About Inclusion

“The report shows us not just what's happening, but what's possible.”

What happens when you stop assuming and start listening?

Drawing on the voices of more than 26,000 students and staff, this landmark GEC report reveals how inclusion is being experienced in schools today, and where the greatest opportunities for change exist.

At a time when schools are grappling with attendance, behaviour, staff retention, wellbeing and growing complexity, the findings are clear: inclusion is not a 'nice-to-have'. It is a foundation for thriving schools and stronger outcomes.

Combining quantitative data, lived experience and Kaleidoscopic Data insights, the report surfaces the realities often hidden behind traditional metrics. It explores belonging, representation, wellbeing, support, leadership and school culture through the voices of those experiencing education every day.

Inside the report you'll discover:

  • Key findings from 26,000 student and staff voices

  • National trends affecting Inclusion and Belonging

  • Intersectional insights often missed by traditional data

  • Practical recommendations for leaders

  • Examples of what schools are doing to create meaningful change

Whether you're a school leader, Trust executive, Local Authority professional or inclusion champion, this report provides evidence, insight and practical reflection to help you build more inclusive and equitable educational communities.
