Jamie’s Dyslexia Revolution
Person/Organisation:
JAMIE OLIVER & British Dyslexia Association
Introduction:
Firstly, if you haven’t had the chance to watch Jamie Oliver’s Channel 4 documentary you can catch up here.
Right now we have an education system laser focused on 75% of kids that learn the right way, leaving the others behind.
We need a truly inclusive classroom that values different ways of learning, flexing to the needs of each child. That means fundamentally redrawing the system so that it serves all children & making changes that would make a big difference right now:
SPOT THE SIGNS EARLY
How can we help kids if we don’t even know they need support? Early screening is key—it lets us catch it early, before they’re left to struggle.
We want every child to have a universal screening check within their first two years of school.
SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS
Teachers are amazing and of course they want to help every child, so let’s make sure they get the training and support to do it.
We want every educator to have the training to teach e v er y child, not just the 75% who fit the current system.
VOICE PETITION
Help kick off the next phase of the Dyslexia Revolution.
Right now, the Secretary of State is shaping a new SEND white paper — but how can she make the right decisions without hearing from those who live it every day?
That’s why we’re launching what we believe is the first-ever voice petition — because not everyone expresses themselves the same way, and voices like yours matter.
Let’s make sure government hears what change sounds like.
Get involved:
We’re inviting everyone — parents, teachers, young people, and allies — to speak up and add your voice to tell the Secretary of State what she needs to know as she rewrites the future for children with SEND.
A collective, human, emotional plea to the Secretary of State.
Our chance to tell her our hopes and dreams for what the new system could be — and the difference it could make for you, your family, your students, or your community.
Record a short voice note (max 60 seconds) starting with … “I’m [NAME], and I’m [YOUR CONNECTION]

Nothing is more powerful than your own words and perspective … but a little inspo never hurt!
“I’m Rachel, and I’m a parents of a dyslexic child. My son is 9. Bright, creative, funny — and already thinks he’s stupid. He’s been told to ‘try harder’ more times than I can count. What he actually needs is to be seen, supported, and taught properly. Universal screening would have changed everything for us.”
“I’m Marcus, and I’ve been a primary teacher for 15 years. I’ve watched too many children slip through the cracks — not because they aren’t capable, but because we’re not trained to spot the signs early enough. If we want equity in education, screening and training aren’t optional — they’re essential.”
I’m Sarah. I’m 62, and I’m dyslexic. if I’d known I was dyslexic earlier, everything might’ve felt different. It’s not about labels — it’s about understanding. Let’s make sure every child gets that chance, right from the start.
How you can help:
Sharing on socials: template for you to use
We need your help to make sure as many people as possible know about the voice petition because the more voices we gather, the louder the message becomes.
I’ve just added my voice to the world's first-ever voice petition — because kids with dyslexia deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated.
Right now, the Secretary of State is writing the next big plan for special educational needs — so there’s never been a more important time for her to hear from the people who know this system best: us.

It’s not always easy to speak up. But if we don’t — who will?
