Introduction:

The National Read-Aloud Challenge is a powerful, free summer initiative that transforms reading into a fun, confidence-boosting journey for children everywhere.

At the heart of the challenge is Fonetti – an award-winning read-aloud app powered by our unique, patented automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology, developed specifically for reading. As children read aloud, Fonetti listens in real time, encouraging, correcting, and celebrating progress with every page.

We’re excited to let you know that the National Read-Aloud Challenge 2025 is now officially open for school registration!

The Challenge runs from 1st July to 31st August, giving children across the UK two full months of free access to Fonetti. During this time, they’ll be able to read aloud, earn certificates, and compete on national leaderboards — all while building reading confidence and fluency over the summer.

Who can participate?

  • Children of all reading abilities

  • Ages of 5-15

  • UK nationals, living in the UK

  • Take part with your school or as an individual
